Haiti, documented once more eating itself
Haiti is not considered a failed state yet -it is under alert. In spite of this the humanitarian crisis affecting it grows and initiatives seem –from the distance– to be always leading to the same dead end -the president itself has doubts about international aid efficiency. On the eastern side of the island, Dominican Republic has a very different status, still with an economy that moves on somehow.
Recently I had the chance to watch “Unreported World: Haiti The Island that Ate Itself”. Despite its wrong title (Haiti is not an island!), the documentary shows reasons behind the crisis, behind the difficulties for development. The documentary was available on youtube, but later removed. However, it is possible to find it online.
As a DR citizen, and having roughly studied our neighbor's history, the documentary stills surprises me…
