Music against Power Establishment: IMF Vampires
In search of good music online I found out that “Radio Retaliation” from Thievery Corporation just came out in September. With a combination of click I got a cool collection of music pieces –music base I like and some acid lyrics.
In this album, which I didn’t expect to find, a song has captured my mind two days in a row –and probably more in the future.
“Vampires” is a funky song, but it doesn’t hide at all its goal of criticizing the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
(…)
Lies and theft
Guns and debt
Life and death
IMF
When the bank man comes to your door
Better know you'll always be poor
(…)
And that’s the way it goes.
In addition I found this:
In 2008, a study by analysts from Cambridge and Yale universities published on the open-access Public Library of Science concluded that strict conditions on the international loans by the IMF resulted in thousands of deaths in Eastern Europe by tuberculosis as public health care had to be weakened. In the 21 countries which the IMF had given loans, tuberculosis deaths rose by 16.6 %.
